Abstract
Here I am interested in explaining some reasoning derived from the dialogue between Apel and Dussel (Apel and Dussel, 2004; Apel, Dussel and Fornet, 1992), which allow us to understand the criterion or the material principle from which Dussel (1998; 1998b; 2001) Contra argued the challenges and scope of discursive ethics. For the Argentine philosopher living in Mexico, it is the criterion of life, a criterion that, in reality, had always been presupposed in the entire development of the ethics of Latin American liberation since its first version in 1973.
