Abstract

The entire first generation of Annales is defined against this historiographical tradition, which is a tradition that is condensed in terms of political history, diplomatic history and that would even be defined as a science of the spirit under the same conditions of the 19th century. The Annales school exercises a radical criticism of this historical research model and perhaps also of the touchstone of that model that has to do with the very condition of the historical document.
