Abstract

The aim of this paper is to expose the main postulates of Henri Lefebvre's theory of The Production of Space, which became a far-reaching theoretical and conceptual breakthrough, thanks to its innovative approaches in the fields of urban sociology, critical geography, and urban space studies in general. This is a documentary theoretical research based on the synthetic and argumentative analysis of three of his most important works: The Production of Space; Space and Politics and The Right to the City. The work is structured in three parts. The first part deals with the theoretical and historical background of Lefebvre's work. The second part presents the most relevant postulates of his theory of The Production of Space. The third and last part of the article explains two of his central concepts: differential spaces or counter-spaces and the right to the city.
