Autonomy and community organization in Cherán
Abstract
This paper studies the movement of the indigenous community of Cherán that led them to form the first legally recognized indigenous municipality within the Mexican State; We will refer to the search for its right to self-determination expressed in self-government, to the conformation of its governmental structure as a result of its new legal and political reality, as well as to the dimensions of the P'urhépecha government with which it coexists.
