Abstract

Coyohuacan is one of the delegations that make up what we know today as the D.F. This delegation being one of those that also has a vast cultural legacy. As we enter the pre-Hispanic period we can see that Coyohuacan was a subject area of Azcapotzalco during the reign of Tezozomoctli and that his son Maxtlaton took power on his death in 1426. Now, as we know, one of the characteristics that the ancient peoples of the Basin of Mexico have is that they all share the idea of Nahualism and since Coyohuacan is part of this area, it cannot escape from this ancient belief. For these peoples, the being known as nahual was one that could transform at will into some type of animal or into an atmospheric phenomenon, such as lightning and fireballs.
