Will Fowler Review: Santa Anna, Hero or Villain?
Abstract
Antonio López de Santa Anna is a character who became a negative myth in Mexican history. His figure embodies all the defects of a politician, he is pointed out as a traitor to the fatherland due to the result of the War against the United States (1846-1848) and he is considered to be the cause of the misfortunes that our country experienced in the 19th century. But the myth that exists around the Veracruz military is not very suitable for understanding his participation in Mexican history. Although some researchers have addressed the life of this controversial character, such as Agustín Yáñez, Santa Anna: Spectrum of a society (1982) or Enrique González Pedrero, Country of a single man.
