The impact of the Uruguay River pulp mills on Environmental Law
Abstract
In 2006, Argentina and Uruguay had a dispute about the authorization of the construction of pulp mills on the banks of the Uruguay River, this river belongs to both countries since it crosses both regions, for which Argentina demanded the cancellation of the pulp mill project since Uruguay had given the authorization to the companies to build them, this issue became conflictive and controversial since it is stated that there was a violation of the 1992 Environment Convention, the 1982 Sea Convention as well as the same time to the Treaty of Limits of the Uruguay River which entered into force between both nations in 1961, these three sources respond to environmental problems in which both are committed to respond and apply the appropriate public policies for the conservation of the Earth in the best possible state.
