Abstract

From the sixties, and linked to the changes that took place in psychology, it began to be understood that studying changes in behaviors was too limited because what subjects do is highly determined by the representations of reality that they subjects are forming. In order to find a meaning in the changes in social behavior, it was necessary to try to discover the conceptions that the subjects have of social relations, and the capacities that make them possible. Thus, an area of study emerged, especially in the US, called "Social Knowledge" or "Social Cognition", which aimed to study thinking about social objects, linking it with changes in cognitive capacities in general, and showing that social aspects are closely related to cognitive abilities as a whole.
