Commercial fishing in Antarctica: The begining of the environmental imbalance in the area
Abstract
To avoid territorial conflicts over Antarctica, the “Arctic Treaty” was created in 1959, which establishes that this continent is for all humanity and its purpose will be scientific research for the benefit of humanity (Ortiz, 2015). However, the fishing industry of several countries and their companies have used the Antarctic Ocean as a source of resources to carry out their commercial activities. Which leads to a question, if Antarctica is for all of humanity, why do some benefit from it by trading its resources?
