Abstract

In 1925, attorneys Guillermo Rocha and Luis Cabrera, legal representatives of the Núñez family, sued the company Penn Mex Fuel Company for breach of royalties under the oil exploitation contract of the El Álamo hacienda, located in the Veracruz Huasteca. , arguing, among other things, that the foreign oil companies were concerned about the future regional political north of the Veracruz entity, to such a degree of wanting to proclaim the independence of the Republic of Huasteca "under the protection of the American gunboats". This plot ended by fomenting discord and fueling a rebellion against the regime of President Venustiano Carranza, "whom they considered his fatal enemy."
