Complex interdependence

Abstract

International relations have created various forms of ties that have somewhat exceeded what previously had the unique figure of National States. The theoretical approach that best explains and accentuates the importance of non-governmental actors in international relations is complex interdependence, by Robert Keohane (1998), Joseph Nye (1977) and Elinor Ostrom (1995). The territorial State, an absolutist figure in politics, is now being accompanied by non-territorial actors such as transnational social movements, organizations and associations that are changing the landscape in our time. These theorists seek to show that the central government is no longer the only one carrying out projects with another state.
