Language and identity: The decolonization of Latin America

Abstract

It is true that there is a correspondence between the language we have and the world in which we live, so it could be said that modern languages ​​contain Being, reality and the modern world, since they enclose the modern civilizational system as a horizon of meaning from which have been established. But then for us Latin Americans, who are not European, nor modern in the strict sense, it is essential to problematize the subject of language from a non-modern and decolonial perspective. Because our problem today is how to understand the identity of our peoples in order to redress the contradictions that have constituted us for five hundred years. I emphasize that we are not modern in the strict sense, while our Latin American subjectivity has been constituted contradictorily from the matrix of the original peoples of our continent and the modern matrix that arrived in our territory since the end of the XV century.
