Abstract

Michael Löwy (1938) is one of the most prominent intellectuals on the internationalist left. Director of research emeritus of the National Center for Scientific Research in France, he is currently one of the main thinkers who have been promoting ecosocialism. His works have been published in 24 languages. In 1970 he published one of the most respected works on Che Guevara's thought. His most recent books include: War of the Gods: Religion and Politics in Latin America (Siglo XXI, 1999); The morning star: Surrealism and Marxism (The sky by assault, 2006); Franz Kafka: unsubmissive dreamer (Santillana, 2007); Rebellion and melancholy. Romanticism as a countercurrent to modernity (Nueva vision, 2008); Walter Benjamin: Fire Notice (FCE, 2012); Ecosocialism: The radical alternative to ecological catastrophe (New Library, 2012).
