Beauty in uncertainty: Violence and social vulnerability and their representation in art
Abstract
Contemporary society crudely exposes the sharp territorialization between bodies inside and bodies outside the demarcation machine of culture. The relentless device defines the parameters of access for some and allows the permanence - but with an expiration date - for others. In other words, it limits access or outright excludes those who do not fit the narrow model of what is acceptable. By virtue of this, bodily materiality becomes a field of disputes around what is established around admission or rejection and, in this binary demarcation, all bodies are vulnerable to the urge to avoid suppression or discard.
