The economic growth of Mexico during the Porfiriato

Abstract

The article focuses on analysing a specific period of economic growth in Latin America, taking as a case study Mexico during the first phase of growth that occurred from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. The focus of the research is political economy, which considers the interaction between political forces, institutions and economic performance. It seeks to answer several key questions: Who were the relevant actors during this period, including the role of the state in development; which sectors drove economic growth; and what were the economic outcomes achieved.
