Abstract

Borges in "Biography of Tadeo Isidoro Cruz" wrote: "Any destination, no matter how long and complicated, actually consists of a single moment: the moment when man knows who he is forever." This rhetorical boast deserves certain considerations. In principle, "destiny" is a literary signifier: the imperative of the heroes of the epic, a discursive territory where the first myth of masculinity is founded in classical antiquity, the imprint of which will continue in the reworking of medieval deeds; in which the main component of the heroic morphology is once again the docile acceptance of the external imposition of a destiny over the individual will. In this way, destiny supposes an irreversible path that annuls all interference of will that had already left its freedom in parentheses.
